easyJet announces North Iceland flights for 2024-2025
British airline easyJet has started selling flights to Akureyri Airport from London Gatwick in October and November of next year. The airline initiated direct flights to the North in October last year and has scheduled flights twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays until March. The plan is to continue flights during the same period next winter, and the airline is expected to extend the sales period as it approaches.
Reception of the flights has been positive both in the UK and in Iceland, and it's very positive for tourism in North Iceland that it is now possible to book direct flights to and from London well in advance. Bookings for these flights have been according to plans, and operations at Akureyri Airport have been very successful.
Tourism companies in North Ieland have had a strong presence in marketing in the UK, primarily social and online media, which will continue into next winter. Many have noticed that more Britons are travelling, and the effects of these direct flights are already beginning to show.
"The continued easyJet flights to Akureyri Airport from Gatwick in London next winter are a cause for celebration. Bookings for the flights that started at the end of October have been going well, and the utilization aligns with plans. Direct flights north offer a new option for flights to Iceland and create opportunities to develop winter tourism services. This development is in line with efforts to distribute tourists around the country, and it is gratifying that the years of collaboration on the development of international flights are yielding results as easyJet is planning for next winter," says Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, CEO of Visit North Iceland.
"It is a great pleasure that easyJet has already started selling flights between Akureyri Airport and London Gatwick for next winter," says Sigrún Björk Jakobsdóttir, CEO of Isavia Domestic Airports.
"It will be delightful to welcome easyJet and other airlines at Akureyri Airport next year. The airport's expansion will be ready in July, and we will be better equipped to serve the airlines and their passengers."
