Edelweiss Air offers flights to Akureyri from Zurich
Edelweiss Air, the leading leisure airline in Switzerland, now offers direct flights to Akureyri from Zurich. Starting in July 2023, the airline will offer evening flights from Zurich and night flights back every Friday for a period of seven weeks. In their statement, the airline says that with Iceland as a trending destination, the addition of North Iceland to their network will offer their travelers the opportunity to experience the nature highlights in North Iceland more easily.
“This is great news for tourism in North Iceland, and the whole region in general, that Edelweiss has decided to add North Iceland as a destination. It shows the airline's belief in North Iceland and its potential in tourism and what it offers. Visit North Iceland has worked tirelessly on promoting the destination for airlines, particularly to bring travelers straight to North Iceland. We have furthermore collaborated with Business Iceland, Isavia, and Austurbrú in recent years, which has proved successful as we can see now. The demand for direct flights to Akureyri, as well as Egilsstaðir, will only grow, and I believe we will see more airlines offering flights to Akureyri in the near future,“ says Hjalti Páll Þórarinsson, project manager at Visit North Iceland.
“Edelweiss Air is the leading leisure carrier of Switzerland, we offer direct flights from Zürich to 89 of the most beautiful destinations worldwide – one of which is as of summer 2023 Akureyri. Iceland is one of the top trending destinations during summer for guests from Switzerland. We have had strong development of our route to KEF in only two years of operation, and we see that many people visit the whole country in summer, with a particular interest in the nature highlights in the north of Iceland. By offering this flight to AEY, we hope to be able to provide tourists from Switzerland with an even easier way of getting to the north of the country. Thanks to our 4 weekly flights to KEF, there are ways to combine flights. The passengers will be able to fly to AEY and fly home from KEF (or vice versa), which creates many different possibilities for planning a vacation suited to their individual needs. Our plans for the future are to extend the season to June – September. Once we have made that successful, we’ll see how we continue from there,” it says in a statement from Edelweiss.
