Húsavík - The hometown of Fire Saga and Eurovision
Netflix's newest comedy, Eurovision Song Contest: The story of Fire Saga, is about a band that dreams of winning the famous song contest. Iceland has never produced the winning song, but the band is hopeful that they can be the first Icelanders to do so. Born in Húsavík in North Iceland, the characters called Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Eriksdottir, surprisingly make it all the way to the contest with a little help from the elves.
Húsavík plays a large part in the film, with it's beautiful landscape and the magnificent Skjálfandi bay where the whales live - and as it says in the song, it's because the people from Húsavík are gentle people. The most popular song from the movie is simply called Húsavík. It's a love song and also an ode to the hometown of Fire Saga. In part the lyrics are in Icelandic and roughly translated, they are about how the bands wants to be together in their hometown of Húsavík, where the northern lights burst out in colors and the whales can live, because the people of Húsavík are gentle people.
