easyJet expands the London schedule to Akureyri

easyJet has officially extended the winter schedule for Akureyri from London Gatwick, with flights now available through April.

easyJet has officially extended the winter schedule for Akureyri from London Gatwick, with flights now available on their website through April. The flights were originally scheduled through March but the extended period was announced during a conference in Akureyri in November.

easyJet's UK country manager Ali Gayward made the announcement as she discussed how easyJets operations to Akureyri have been and how the future looks. In addition to April, the airline will start flying at the beginning of October next year, meaning two months have been added to the winter schedule from London. The flights in October will be open for booking early in 2025. Gayward was unable to attend the conference, but sent a recording which can be viewed below.

"We are very pleased to announce this addition to our offerings and to provide more options for our customers. With this, we aim to meet the growing demand for travel to North Iceland, which we have especially noticed increasing year-over-year with flights from London Gatwick. With the addition of flights from Manchester, we can reach many more customers in Northern England.

Demand from Manchester will continue to be closely monitored, and we have great confidence in this route, based on the response so far. The demand for winter trips from the UK is significantly higher than at other times of the year, which is why we are offering flights during this period," said Ali Gayward.

“It is very exciting to have flights available during these autumn and spring months, as it opens up travel opportunities during winter breaks for both British and Icelandic travelers. April has typically been quieter for tourism in North Iceland, so this extends the season, allowing us to offer full services and balance the seasonal fluctuations,” said Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, Managing Director of Visit North Iceland.
