easyJet offers flights to Akureyri through February 2025

British airline easyJet announced this morning its flight schedule for December 2024 to February 2025. In addition to October and November, which had previously been announced, trips to and from Akureyri are now possible during this period. The flights will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The reception to the flights has been excellent, and as time has passed, there has been a significant increase in foreign travellers on easyJet's planes. During the first month of flights this winter, Icelanders were in the majority on the airline's planes, indicating that domestic demand has had a positive impact on the airline's plans for next winter.

This winter, the North Iceland Marketing Office has interviewed people in the travel industry, including asking about the effects of increased intercontinental flights. It is clear from the responses that the effects have been significant and positive. With an increased number of travellers during the winter season, the seasonal fluctuation characteristic of North Icelandic tourism decreases, giving companies better opportunities to offer year-round employment and develop product offerings throughout the year.
