Melar Guesthouse

The family run Melar guesthouse is located in Kópasker, a small village in Öxarfjörður County in the North of Iceland close to the Arctic Circle.
The house, built in the year 1930, is the oldest residential building in the village. Recently renovated, the guesthouse offers accommodation in four bedrooms on the top floor, single and double rooms, one double ensuite room, the other three with shared bathroom facilities.
Melar guesthouse has two hot tubs named The Bakki Baths (in Icelandic: Bakkaböðin), where guests can relax in thermal water, in an exclusive setting, and go for a swim on the nearby seafront. From the hot tubs it is possible to walk down to a beautiful sandy beach with dense black sand where the common ringed plover and the eurasian oystercatcher, among other birds, walk about.

Around this area the bird life is diverse, the lighting is unique, and the peaceful quality of the natural environment is remarkable. The area is distinctive in terms of diversity in bird life and there are bird watching houses in the village.
The village of Kópasker is about one hours’ drive from Húsavík, about 37 km from Ásbyrgi National Park and Hljóðakletta, as well as only 60 km from the Dettifoss waterfall. The village is a part of the Arctic Coast Way which is increasingly popular with guests who choose to travel and experience roads less frequented in the remote areas of northern Iceland.

A short car ride from Kópasker takes visitors to the actual Arctic Circle, enabling them to visit Raufarhöfn village with The Arctic Henge, and explore the beaches and bird cliffs in Melrakkslétta. The Northern Lights can also be enjoyed in the best possible conditions as they illuminate the countryside around Kópasker.
