We at the Scandic Mountain Guides specialise
in ski touring/splitboarding trips in the wintertime and hiking tours in the
summertime. Scandic Mountain Guides is located in Siglufjörður, approximately
1:15h by car from Akureyri.
Tröllaskagi (Troll Peninsula) is our main
skiing and hiking area. It is a world-class skiing area with thousands of
slopes waiting for their first descents. In the summertime, there are infinite
possibilities to hike around the peninsula and to places where few people have
ever been before.
The founders of Scandic Mountain Guides,
Jóhann Haukur Hafstein and Björgvin Björgvinsson are both former alpine ski
racers and members of the Icelandic Olympic team. In recent years they have
mainly engaged in backcountry skiing and freeriding during the winter and
hiking tours in the summertime. Jóhann and Björgvin have also been running
Scandics’ sisters' company Viking
Heliskiing, focusing on heliskiing/heliboarding holidays since
2013.
Scandic Mountain Guides has developed a group
of the most talented crew. We have a powerful and skilful team of guides,
ranging from professional skiers to mountain guides with UIAGM/IFMGA
certification and more than 35 years of experience in the industry.
The Troll Peninsula has a varied terrain that
should fit all skiers and hikers. And the views! The views are something
spectacular for what it is worth to come and ski tour/splitboard in the north
of Iceland in the first place.
Viking Heliskiing allows our guests to do heli-assisted ski touring. That means
the helicopter will fly you up to mountains that you would typically not be
able to visit, and from there, your ski touring/splitboarding experience
starts!
